Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, essayist, and poet born in Edinburgh in 1850. Despite suffering from chronic illness for much of his life, he became one of the most celebrated adventure writers of the 19th century. Stevenson is best known for classics such as Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Kidnapped. His works combined vivid storytelling, psychological depth, and memorable characters. Stevenson traveled widely in search of better health and eventually settled in Samoa, where he died in 1894. His influence on adventure and gothic literature remains profound today.
