Dorothy L. Sayers (1893–1957) was an English novelist, playwright, essayist, translator, and one of the foremost writers of the Golden Age of detective fiction. Educated at Somerville College, Oxford, she was among the first women to receive a degree from the university. Sayers is best known for creating the aristocratic detective Lord Peter Wimsey, whose adventures combined intricate mysteries with wit and psychological insight. Beyond crime fiction, she gained acclaim for her translation of Dante's Divine Comedy and her religious essays and plays. Her literary legacy continues to influence mystery writers and readers around the world.
