Sherlock Holmes is probably the most famous detective in history—real or fictional. His powers of observation and deduction are legendary. His iconic image portrays the quintessential depiction of a detective.

His Last Bow is the eighth title in the Sherlock Holmes Series. Holmes, along with his good friend Dr. Watson, are the premier dynamic duo in crime fiction and set the standard for aspiring detectives as well as mystery authors.

His Last Bow is a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories, with the title story featuring Holmes coming out of from retirement during World War I to thwart a German spy ring. The collection showcases Holmes’ enduring brilliance and deductive skills as he works undercover to dismantle the spy network.

The title story is the final adventure in the compilation and serves as a apt ending to Holmes’ career as a consulting detective. While the title story is the most prominent, the book also includes other intriguing cases, such as “The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge,” which involves a mysterious invitation, a missing guest, and a connection to a feud between families.

“Elementary, my dear Watson,” is perhaps the most well-known phrase of the Sherlock Holmes stories. The only problem is, that phrase never actually appears in any of the manuscripts written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Caveat; Holmes did often use the word “elementary” to describe his deductions and did address Watson as “my dear Watson,” but he never combined the two into a single phrase.
