Kidnapped is a historical fiction adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. Set in the 18th Century, the book was written as a boys’ novel and first published in the magazine Young Folks. A young heir, David Balfour, is kidnapped by his uncle Ebenezer to be sold into servitude. Aboard a ship, Balfour makes friends Alan Breck Stewart and the two become unlikely allies in a dangerous escape attempt across the Scottish Highlands. Ultimately, David manages to reclaim his inheritance and secure passage for Alan. A sequel, Catriona was published in 1893.

Quote from the book—

“There are two things that men should never weary of, goodness and humility; we get none too much of them in this rough world among cold, proud people.”

― Robert Louis Stevenson, Kidnapped
