The Big Four is a tale of international intrigue and espionage. Hercule Poirot investigates an international criminal organization—The Big Four—composed of a Chinese mastermind, a French scientist, an American millionaire, and a murderous English criminal, all vying for world domination. The story is an episodic thriller; Poirot must piece together clues from a series of seemingly unrelated cases in an attempt to stop the syndicate’s plans for global control.
The Big Four is the fifth title in The Poirot Series. The first title in the series, The Mysterious Affair At Styles, launched Christie’s writing career. Christie and her husband subsequently named their house “Styles.” Hercule Poirot would go on to become one of the most famous characters in fiction. Decades later, when Christie told the story of Poirot’s final case in Curtain, she set that novel at Styles as well.
Quote:
“The destruction of a criminal organization is a matter of patient, logical deduction and the chilling observation that the men who loom most largely in the public eye are men of little or no personality.”
