The Black Arrow is an historical adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson set during the turbulent Wars of the Roses. The story follows young Richard "Dick" Shelton, a loyal ward raised by the powerful Sir Daniel Brackley. When Dick begins to uncover dark secrets surrounding his father's death, his faith in his guardian is shattered. Guided by mysterious messages signed by the outlaw fellowship known as the Black Arrow, he is drawn into a dangerous struggle involving revenge, justice, and shifting political loyalties.

As civil war spreads across England, Dick must navigate battles, betrayals, and hidden identities while protecting Joanna Sedley, the courageous young woman he loves. Pursued by ruthless enemies and aided by unlikely allies, he gradually matures from an inexperienced youth into a determined and honorable knight.

Filled with archery duels, castle sieges, daring escapes, and medieval intrigue, The Black Arrow combines fast-paced action with themes of loyalty, courage, honor, and redemption. Stevenson's vivid storytelling and memorable characters create an exciting coming-of-age tale that captures both the romance and brutality of fifteenth-century England, making it one of his most enduring historical adventures.

Quote from the book—

“I know; I don't care to die either. But when whining mendeth nothing, wherefore whine?”
