In The Man In The Brown Suit, Anne Beddingfeld, witnesses a man's death at a London subway station (tube station) and is drawn into a mystery involving a man in a brown suit. Anne picks up a note dropped by the doctor who examined the dead man, which read “17·122 Kilmorden Castle.” The next day a woman is found dead at Mill House in Marlow. A young man in a brown suit was identified as a suspect, having entered the house soon after the woman.

Anne uses the note as her only clue to track down the man in the brown suit and the truth behind the death. Her investigation leads her to South Africa where she discovers a major plot involving stolen diamonds, espionage, a possible secret service agent, and a criminal mastermind known as “the Colonel.”

The Man In The Brown Suit is the first title in The Colonel Race Series. The novel is a departure from Christie’s traditional mystery stories, focusing more on international crime and adventure.
