Set in London’s historic legal district, The Middle Temple Murder opens with a startling discovery: a well-dressed elderly man found dead in a quiet passageway of the Temple. Frank Spargo, a young newspaper sub-editor, stumbles upon the scene and becomes irresistibly drawn into the mystery. What begins as professional curiosity soon deepens into a personal quest, especially when a scrap of paper found on the victim links the case to a rising young barrister, Ronald Breton.
As Spargo investigates alongside the police, layers of deception unfold, revealing hidden identities, long-buried secrets, and a complex web of past crimes stretching back decades. The case grows increasingly intricate, involving false leads, mysterious financial dealings, and unexpected connections that challenge every assumption.
Blending sharp journalistic insight with classic detective storytelling, Fletcher crafts a suspenseful narrative driven by curiosity and persistence. The novel builds steadily toward a satisfying resolution, where the truth emerges through careful deduction, exposing both the victim’s identity and the motives behind a carefully concealed crime.
Quote from the book—
“The entry was a cold and formal thing of itself; not a nice place to lie dead in.”
