From Chewana Books: The Murder At The Vicarage
Written in 1930, The Murder At The Vicarage, is narrated by the witty Vicar Leonard Clement, who discovers the body of the disliked Colonel Protheroe shot in his study. With multiple suspects, including the Colonel’s wife and her lover who both confess, and the local police stumped, elderly spinster neighbor Miss Marple uses her keen understanding of village life to piece together clues, uncovering hidden motives and solving the murder amidst a web of secrets, red herrings, and a second unexpected death.
The Murder At The Vicarage is the first novel to feature the character of Miss Marple and her village of St. Mary Mead. The Miss Marple character had previously appeared in short stories published in magazines, from December 1927. These earlier stories were later collected in book form in The Thirteen Problems.

Born Agatha Miller, she was home-schooled, worked as a nurse during WWI (learning about poisons), married pilot Archibald Christie (divorced after his affair), and famously disappeared for 11 days in 1926 before marrying archaeologist Max Mallowan in 1930, whose travels inspired her work. She was made a Dame in 1971 and died in 1976, leaving a legacy of intricate plots and enduring characters.
